Harvest Square: a new mixed-use development at Riverfields

  • 16 October 2014

The first fully mixed-use development at Riverfields, located north-east of the Kempton Park central business district and between OR Tambo International Airport and Tshwane, will be launched to investors in the first quarter of 2015.

Harvest Square at Riverfields will offer retail, residential and office space to discerning investors wishing to be at the heart of a cutting-edge new nodal development, only minutes away from the airport.

The precinct will be fully integrated into the wider Riverfields urban development and will be within walking distance of both junior and senior schools, religious facilities, an open park system and offices.

Furthermore, Harvest Square will bring much-needed retail facilities to the residents and businesses already established at Riverfields. It is anticipated that South Africa’s top retailers will open outlets at Harvest Square.

According to research conducted by DEMACON in 2013 the Riverfields trade area consists of just over 200,000 households with 75% of the population economically active.

The area is predominantly a middle-income area which is currently underserviced in respect of retail, leisure and recreational facilities.

“Harvest Square will soon be a prominent new landmark in Ekurhuleni, offering a public square within a fully integrated live, play and work environment. While the intention is to create a pedestrian- and cycling-friendly environment, provision has been made for more than 500 parking bays,” according to Lardus Erasmus, Director of the Riverfields Development Company.

The urban design team behind Harvest Square are the urban planning masterminds behind some of South Africa’s most successful mixed-use precincts, including the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town and Umhlanga Ridge Town Centre in eThekwini.
